Meet Ridenhigh's Elvira aka Bernie

Postby FrankGWP » Thu Jul 09, 2020 1:10 pm

This lovely lady has been with us just about two weeks now. I was on a list for just about two years before I could get her - a bit of a griff dessert out here on the West Coast. She's from Stonyridge Artemis and Hun Hills Carolina Breeze.

Quick question(s): Any favorite puppy chew toys you'd care to share? She'll be camping next week and likely staked out more than usual. I'd like to keep her happy.

Also, she is mouthy as all get out. I equipped my 6 year old with a small water gun to ease his terror. Seems to work. Any objections or suggestions with the technique?

She's a real looker! Congrats.
Antlers and Bully sticks always seem to keep mine occupied.

Like that nice silver coat. A real beauty.

Chew toys: Nothing she can eat/swallow or break a tooth on. No squeaky toys.

Thanks for the photo. Will expect more.

Good looking puppy. All puppies are gonna have some termite in them till there dog teeth come in. Some are worse than others. I don’t give them chew toys and I know some do. I will give them rawhide chews or pig ears. Bumpers, birds, and things to eat are all I want in their mouth. That doesn’t always go as planned with a puppy and chewing crap up and gnawing fingers and hands and all kinds of other things is usually where I start teaching what no means. Most dogs with a strong natural retrieve are going to like having something in their mouth.
Keep the puppy pics coming.

Cute Pup. You tapped into some good genetics.

Not giving advice just relaying what I have done with my last two pups.

Porkies and Kongs while I am supervising them. I do not allow them when I am not supervising as I have had several occasions where those porkies come unrolled and a dog trying to swallow them can get choked. I have reached down their throat a few times to retrieve a big piece they were trying to swallow whole.

I also give them deer antlers. That has risk for broken teeth and I think that varies with how aggressive a chewer a dog is. So you'll have to navigate those waters with your own judgement.
