Alternating your dog's diet after spaying/neutering

Postby mastercaster » Sun Jun 03, 2018 12:37 am

Just had my griff spayed last Thursday. She was just over 17 months old. Since she has to be on the down low for the next couple of weeks,,,,no running, no jumping, no stairs, and no rough housing with other dogs she's going to be burning half the calories she would likely do when she's her highly energetic self.

Just wondering,,,,, when your pups went through the same thing whether or not you reduced the amount of food you gave them during that two week recovery period?

I used to think that altering dogs and weight gain was a bunch of horse pucky. I dont anymore. Max would never eat when he was intact. People swore I starved him. 1 week after neutering, he wont stop earing. He seems to be hungry 24/7.
Same with my 2 bitches. Hard to feed intact, chow hounds after being altered.

SO, you arent going to just have to adjust for 2 weeks, more like a life time.

I never noticed because all I fed them was all they were going to get. I never met a dog that wasn’t hungry for something.

My griff has always been a glutton. I swore if she ever came upon an open bag of kibble she'd try to eat the whole thing. LOL

I guess it will be a tale of the wist. If i see it getting bigger I'll cut back on her rations,,,,and hope I don't get the stink eye every meal.

We didn't adjust during the recovery or after, but then again our SM has never been overly food motivated or prone to overeating.
