Non-slip vs. Upland Retrievers

Could you please tell me what the difference is between an upland retriever and a non-slip retriever is?

A "non-slip" retriever simply refers to a trained retriever that is steady to shot and fall and therefore does not require a "slip lead" (British for lease or lead).

An upland retriever is trained like a spaniel would be trained to quarter/flush/"hup" or steady/then retrieve downed game. Many European dog handlers will have a pointer or setter locate and pin game birds, then have a non slip retriever locate and retrieve the bird after they are shot. The pointer goes on to locate other birds.
